What do you mean by "see"? Like go visit? Or physically see?
Unless you are on the upper floor of one of the hotels facing north and east, you won't be able to see them. Too many hills in the way. And the Hollywood sign appears miniscule from the area. On TV, they always use a zoom lens. I can see it from the 405 and 105 freeway interchange, but I know where to look, and I can barely make it out.
As for visiting, you can get to downtown using the Flyaway Shuttle from the lower level. Cost is $7. If you take the Red Line subway from Union Station, you can go to the Hollywood and Highland Complex, where you can get a decent view of it from the third level bridge.
Not from the airport itself but you can go see them and be back in the same day.
How would u do that? 2 ways. You can either rent a car or take public transportation.
If u go via public transit, here's what u do:
1. Take a flyaway bus from lax to la union station. (I think it's $7 but i could be wrong)
2. Once at union station you can take the metro red line (subway) that's 3 dollars roundtrip to hollywood or buy a 5 dollar daypass and use the buses/trains to explore downtown and hollywood.
3. Once you're done, you go back to union station and catch a flyaway bus back to lax.
If u choose to do this, I would recommend u stick with the trains once at downtown/hollywood because LA is notorious for its traffic.
But when you are landing, you will probably fly right by downtown. Sit on the leftside of the plane. You should easily see Staples center (big round building). It will be lite up at night. And the skyline. Sometimes you will be a little further out and be able to see the Coliseum too (where USC plays football).
- if your plane lands from West to East (ocean to land), you will miss this.
- every once in a while you may take a different route, but this is probably 90% of the flights.
