If I send it back to Sony, are they going to fix it or send me a new one? I paid and downloaded a few games to mine and I'll be pissed if I lose everything I've downloaded.
do you have a warranty on it? If you do look at the warranty paper work. In the warranty for our ps3 it says that they would send us a complete new one. So we wouldn't have to wait and waste "game time" for them to fix it. If you don't have a warranty on it sony wont fix it for free. And if you sent it to them they would probably just send you a new one anyway. If you want to save you games and you don't have a warranty i would just bring it to a place that fixes electronics so you can still have your games!
They will try to fix it first but they can still send you a new one if they think it best, in that scenario I would think they would copy your info and games onto the new hard drive. Just make sure you have warranty, which for me lasted a year, otherwise you will have to pay $149.00 to even have them take a look at it. If you are just over the warranty(within 30 days) bring up the "gesture of good will clause" and they should give you a break and fix it for free.

The same exact thing happened to my ps3. They fixed mine without replacing it so im pretty sure that they're gonna do the same for you.
They will attempt to fix your console, if they can't they'll give you a new console.
