I have the Yahoo bag and a selection of others ... so it's a question of how many of what sort I may wish to additionally acquire.
We get 2 dozen or so plastic each month and tote trash to the dumpster nigh-daily, if there is any garbage the disposal can't take (i.e. popcorn hulls), it goes O U T promptly and tied shut to discourage four-legged and six-legged scavengers.
I find paper bags useful for *lining* the cloth bags. When I carry trade-in paperbacks or VHS tapes, I don't worry about handles tearing half-down the stairway or in the middle of a parking lot. At the destination, I remove the cloth layer, leaving the full bag without immediate un-packing.

Cockroaches love to make their homes in the paper bags. Stores usually take back plastic for recycling.

Depends if the hubby is home to help unload if not then plastic if he is than paper.
neither- I use cloth bags for shopping. The only time I use paper is the couple of weeks before school starts to get bags for book covers.
Hemp, sisal, canvas. My own shopping bag like my mother used to have, or a string bag which scrunches up small to keep in a pocket.
