LA is 4 hours each way from Vegas. GCanyon is 5 hours. I would suggest you look at Boulder City and Lake Mead. Ryolite is great and can be a day trip and on the way you will see other old towns. You will miss something if you dont spend at least one night at GCanyon and see the sunrise and sunsets, WOW. You can drive to Williams, take a train to GCanyon, spend the night, train back, a package deal and then drive back to Vegas. Interesting ride in desert to Canyon! I would suggest Death Valley but summer is HOT there, can be a day trip or overnight.

Can't vouch for Rhyolite, but Las Vegas makes the perfect starting point to a wonderful vacation in the American Southwest where you'll experience a diverse array of scenery and have access to a variety of experiences.

From Las Vegas, go to Grand Canyon South Rim, that takes ~ 4.5 hours, stay 1-2 nights

From GC South go to Lake Powell (Page AZ), drive time ~3 hours, stay 2 nights at least

From Lake Powell, go to Bryce Canyon, drive time ~ 3 hours, stay 1 night

From Bryce Canyon, go to Zion National Park, drive time ~ 2 hours, stay 2 nights minimum
