I owned a house that was set fire by an arsonist. The city said the damage was extensive and knocked my house down. Now they just sent me a huge demolition bill and say i'm responsible for it. I had nothing to do with this and did not advise them to knock it down. Can i fight them in court?

If it were me and the proved it was set on purpose hell ya i'd fight it.. make sure you have all your paper work from the court house and the police department that will help with your case.. best of luck to you!
You may well be responsible for the reasonable costs of making your property safe, including demolition of a damaged structure, regardless of how it got that way or whether they got your permission (it's public safety). Talk to your insurance company. If you "fight this in court," you may end up having to pay the city's attorney fees, on top of what you already owe.
