In the way people talk and think in the Middle East, God is given credit for "the way things are." Western thought differentiates specific acts of God from the things that happen as a result of the natural laws He has set up taking effect.
In the case of the Bible verse you are talking about, when a person does harmful things to their body over a period of time, guess what, their poor body gives out.
