I went to start my car and it acted like it was going to start but never turned over. Well it was parked on a hill and I thought it couldn't get gas to the motor...so I stuck the key in this little spot beside my gear shift and imediatly the car started rolling back. Then it slowly came to a stop on the hill. Emergency brake was off and it still wouldn't move. This place just replaced my front brakes a week prior and they replaced my spark plugs and wires. The same company came and towed it to thier garage. when they looked at the car they said the transmission is locked up.(note: when they towed it off the back wheels moved just fine) Now I have had alot of places take me for a ride and say that something really expensive went wrong and come to find out the thing that went wrong was something simple. I bought this car b/c its great on gas. I really dont wont to have to buy another right now. Any ideas?? Are they feeding me a bunch of bull malarky????

when you stuck your key in the little spot by the gear, you must've engaged the overide gear shift switch ( it is used to shift gears while the car is off). i assume you have an automatic transmission. if it is, shift it into neutral and have someone push the car a few feet. if the flywheel is "locked-up" it should move back into place once you move the car. If you shifted the car back into PARK as the car was rolling down the hill, more than likely the transmission could've incurred some damage.
The car is front wheel drive, so the rear wheels will free wheel when towed. Was "locked up" their words, or yours? A trannsmission shop should be able to be more specific than that. Worst case, you should be able to get a transmission (used) installed for less than $1000.
man you are getting hosed.it might be the safety switch that is bad . if the car rolled when you stuck your key into the unlock switch you might have to remove the console and look at what is going . bet you find your problem there instead of the tranny
