84 Dodge D150
360 5.9L Aftermarket cam and headers
Edelbrock 500cfm 4bbl (Brand new)
No emissions/Catalytic converter
New, clean K&N air filter.
Had this problem for a while now... The truck will start up fine and run perfectly fine for a while but after a bit of driving (Usually 15-20 miles) It'll just lose power out of no where, the engine doesn't stall and idles fine but if you try giving it gas it seems like it won't go past idle speed. It seems to only do this when it's under load, if I put it in park/neutral I can rev the engine fine but when it's in gear I get no power. If I shut the truck off and let it sit for about 5 minutes it'll start up again but a lil hesitant and will drive for another 5-8 miles.
The truck may be overheating? Temp gauge doesn't work like it's supposed to. Seems like in cold weather I can drive much further without any problems, not leaking/burning any coolant though and the fan works fine. Possibly the thermostat? It seems like an overheating issue but if not then what else would cause this to happen?
Update:Also, would anyone happen to know the size of the gas tank that game with the D150's?

if it has a auto choke check that it is releasing properly once the motor is warmed up
Try loosening the gas cap as soon as it shuts off. I think '84 has a pressurized system. Mine is an '89.
If there's no pressure, or if you smell raw fuel anywhere, the return line to the tank may be rotted and not pressurizing the tank. Sometimes topping off the tank will provide enough gravity pressure to keep it running but it will run short as the tank level goes down.
Remove the thermostat if you are not going to install a new temp gauge immediately.
Clean fuel filters. Install a see-thru fuel filter. Check fuel flow.
If exhaust is burning black, check the choke
Good luck
Many different tank sizes: 15, 18, 21, 25, 30, 36
Like the other guys said its probably not getting fuel... Is your fuel pump pumping enough gas to the new carberator... tank maybe getting clogged... pinched fuel line...ffuel filter.... thats all i have...
Could be mucky (dirty) fuel lines. Tank pump fuel filter carb / injectors, only way is to go through them all.
