for your lid, do not use pencil liner. use a liquid or cream liner because they will stay alot longer and the line will look alot cleaner. i love maybelline's waterproof liquid liner, i started out with that liner and it was easy to use because it had a felt tip and had great staying power. i've moved on to MAC but i think maybelline's is a graet product for beginners with liquid liner.
save the pencil for your waterline and if that's what youre talking about smudging then try setting it with an eyeshadow of the same color. or try using a waterproof pencil like MAC's powerpoint. i find that their kohl power pencils last very long and give very rich colors though.

for me, and im a make up whooore, it has has has to be chanel kohl for 2 reasons:
- this eyeliner stays on for absolute hours, its thick, its easy to use and works remarkably on the inner eyeline !
- i have had this eyeliner for nearly 2 years, yes its short, but a little goes a long way. its the best by far.
its £14 in the uk but think of it as an investment!
