My daughter gave me the seed pods. I scored the edges, planted them, and nearly all of them came up. The freeze levelled them to the ground. Will they be okay or do you have to replant each year?
Caesalpinia pulcherrima or Pride of Barbados germinate best when you sow seed at 55-64ºF in spring, they germinate even faster if soaked in warm water for 24 hours before planting. They can handle temps as low as about 15º. The leaves will die back but the roots will survive. So if you are in zone 8 (heavy mulch) or 9 or higher - no need to plant more seeds :)

Before planting these make sure danger of frost has passed in your area. The young tender seedlings will definitely be killed by frost or a freeze. Mature plants can survive much colder weather, but these are tropical plants and can freeze down, depending on the zone in which you live.
