wil I lose my Green Card if I get divorced?

I've been married to my husband for 5 years, 3 years prior dating. I've had my green card for more than 4 years and it does not expire until 2020. I got my permanent residency card for 2 years after our wedding and then green card. I was here on a student visa before hand therefore I had no problems getting my GC.

Unfortunately, after 5 years of marriage we have grown apart and will get a divorce. Will I lose my green card if we get a divorce? if not, Will I have trouble renewing my green card in 2020? or will I actually be able to get the citizenship despite getting a divorce? I know I could have applied for the citizenship more than a year ago, but I never saw the point of it because I had my green card and it permitted me to do the same as if having the citizenship. But, now that I might not stay with my husband (born in US), I have to make sure I will be able to continue my life here.

Thanks in advance for all of your help
