With my second baby I did not have an epidural. I just breathed deeply through contractions and arched my back in during them. It helped alot. I also somewhat ignored the nurses and did what made me comfortable. Lasted about 18 hours and even with the nurses pushing for me to get the epidural( they said it would help me sleep to get more energy when i had to push)l, I did it drug free.
I had a natural labor with my first baby. Was in labor for 8 hours dealing with back labor! I will be honest, it was pretty horrible. I walked, took a shower (or a few) rocked in a rocking chair, sat in a tub. After 6 hours, I said that I wanted something for the pain. They checked me and I was fully dilated so I couldn't get any pain medication. I pushed for two hours and ended up having an emergency c-section. After everything, I felt like I had accomplished a lot. I attempted to have a natural birth, ended up wanting something but couldn't get it, then having to go through a c-section! lol. I would suggest walking and breathing. Good luck!

Whatever you selected hard work pains will all be a factor of the beyond when you bond together with your new born. Good success - keep confident - I used to be terrified too however boy used to be it valued at it!
Thankfully mine lasted only 7 hours and I had no meds. I tried the gas and air since people had said it make you feel a little spaced out, which sounded like fun in a fairly stressfull situation and it just made me sick. What got me through labour which I had to do on an empty stomach as I had sicked up my breakfast thanks to the gas and air was counting and eye contact. I would count during my contractions and each one lasted to 16 or 18 counts so I knew by the time I got to 10 that contraction was nearly over. Having that frame of mind helped a lot and just keeping my mind on the fact that I was not in control of this, my body was and I just had to do what my body told me to.
I am surprised over how easy I found it, but hindsight means I have probably forgotten about the worst. And looking back at my papers I didnt get to hospital until 3 hours before giving birth and before then my contractions was quite liveable, so I only endured 3-4 hours of bad contractions.
