Do you have any other disk in the computer,, a floppy, or CD ? If not turn the computer off, take the side cover off,, look for the grey flat ribbon wires plugged into back of drives, gently push on them to make sure they are connected secure, was the computer dropped or abused or anybody work on it recently, has it been acting weird last week or so, ? If not then do you have your windows disk ? Now a couple of ways to go here,, go buy and install a new hard drive,, then hope you can slave the old one in to get the stuff off of it you want to keep, and now at this point I would also say go to your local library and check out books on fixing and repairing computers,, it will be alot cheaper that going to the shop with it,
When your computer starts up hit the ESC button. You will be in a boot mode. You will get a menu pick hard drive hit enter. Pick the drive that you have your windows loaded to. (C drive on most systems) and hit enter. This is only a temp fix. I don't know what kind of motherboard you have but you need to reboot and hold the DEL key to get into your BIOS and choose what drive your computer boots from and select it. If you don't know anything about changing things in your BIOS contact me at [email protected] let me know what motherboard you are using.
If it happens regularly, it might be time to buy a new hard drive.
It could also be windows getting confused, giving an incorrect error message, or, on a slim chance, a virus.
It's a pretty broad error to diagnose. Better ask someone irl to help you out.
