Which processor do you prefer and why?
Update:The reason I asked is a purchased a computer with 8 core AMD processor. The salesman told me it was for gaming. It has a gtx 550ti 3gb graphics card (which tge salesman informed me thats its a medium to high graphics card ) and 16gb ram. I'm able to play skyrim on ultra setting with no problems. Waiting to test dishonoured.

For what type of work- everyday tasks, gaming, video editing, 3D design?
In some specialized tasks it's helpful to have 8 cores, but in 90% of tasks Intel's Core i7 is better.
For gaming, Intel's Core i5 is the best choice (i7 has exactly the same performance in games) but the Core i5's lower price allows you to buy a higher-end graphics card, which is what matters most. Even Intel's Core i3 outperforms AMD's 8 core processors in most games, because games only utilize 2-3 cores maximum.

We all know , well at least a lot of us know intel is better than amd in performance, amd 8 core processors are not that bad on benchmark checks and being on a budget i would go for the amd fx 8150 than like a intel i7-3770k, yes the amd 8 core uses are great for multi-tasking , and depends on the graphic card i get, gaming , photo editing {photoshop and other adobe products } music , and video editing, there is nothing i can say bad about your specs and playing skyrim at ultra settings
Errr, are you sure it is the 550ti? Not a 560ti? I'd personally choose the i7, do you know what clock speed they're at? I find intel processors to be faster in general on the high end, could be related to the architecture, but on the low end, AMD processors are fantastic.
i7.
By far
i7's Ivy Bridge are amazing and using HyperThreading you will have eight logical core which is all the 8150 and 8120 AMD processors are. They are quads with hyperthreading. But to be honest the AMD FX are only as good as the i5 First Gen processors. Of course it depends on what processor you're buying of i7. I would recommend the 3770k
Intel i7s beat the hell out of any AMD out there.
But if you are looking for a server rig or you are into heavy virtualisation only then will AMD 8 cores come handy. Else for daily use, photoshop, gaming, etc i7 is the best choice.
Well the 8 core for faster and more efficient processing..
