I have been prescribed Fluoxetine by my doctor for anxiety.
I know it's an antidepressant but the doctor said it also helps with anxiety.
I've read the leaflet about all the possible side effects and realise that everybody reacts differently to tablets and might not even suffer any side effects.
What i would like to know is if anybody here has suffered with any adverse side effects and if so what were they?
All answers appreciated.
Update:Thank you all so much for your answers. Phillip b thank you for your suggestions and although i believe in karma i really don't think that my anxiety is down to anything bad i have done.

Fluoxetine is prozac by another name and it was AWFUL I would NEVER go on it again
<shudders in fear>
I lost a year of my life to that drug. I just didnt care, I got up went to work came home like a zombie.. just didnt care.
Horrid horrid pills.. Ive got Citalopram now... much better stuff, I had side effects of nausia and dizziness for 6 weeks when I started but it passed and these work. I dont feel like a zombie on them either.
Edit- how the hell did i get thumbed down for that?
Im now taking fluoxetine for the third time.
The first time I took it I had pretty bad side effects, nausea, headache, racing heartbeat. They can make you feel quite ill for a bit but side effects usually only last a couple of days so its best to carry on talking the medication as its benefits will probably outweigh the few side effects.
This time I havent had any side effects at all. Try not to worry about the side effects because the more they are on your mind the more likely you are to get them (the brain likes to play tricks on us) or convince yourself you have them when normally you wouldnt notice. I think thats what I did the first time because I spent ages reading the leaflet and looking online but because I havent bothered with all that this time I seem to be fine.
Try to ignore side effects and carry on taking the meds but if youu do get any that really bother you then just let your doctor know.
All meds have possible side effects including things like paracetamol but we dont tend to worry about taking those.
Chances are you'll be fine :)
Hope that helps :)
I took citolapram to begin with, i thought it wasnt working so I took Fluxetine, which was too strong for me, i had shortness of breath, and basically everything i had 4 citolpram but more
fluxetine in general is stronger than citolapram, but many people are on fluxetine, you may be fine with it. just give it a go. (im not sure but i eperianced bad side effects)
nausea, insomnia (if u take befor u go sleep) the stomach side effects take effect soon as you take it
the effects were horrible because they will make u WORSE before u get BETTER, remeber that, although every body is diffrernt
Fluoxetine (or Prozac) is one of the most commonly prescribed anti depressants.
Common side effects you are likely to get are a very dry mouth (keep a bottle of water with you), dizziness and nausea.
SSRI's are generally considered the safest anti depressants.
What you need to know about side effects from medications is that if one person reports to their doctor that they have experienced something uncomfortable about the medication that they were prescribed doctors have to report it to the pharmaceutical company. There is no way of telling in the list of side effects that you read for a particular medication that it may have happened to one person out of thousands and not another person.
Fluoxetine never helped my anxiety, but made me feel sick, some people find it helpful, if it does not help you try Escitalopram or Lexapro, it is more expensive but works better and has less side effects.
i take both
