My Presa Canario has recently started his bite work training. He has already recieved his AKC good citizen award. Anyways back to the topic. The trainer helping me has told me to put him on a lean diet and once a week i feed him a raw meat diet. We walk and he has recently been pulling weights on a treadmill to build muscle tone. There is a supplement for dogs claiming to define muscles. I dont know if I should start him on the supplements. The vet didn't help me at all; he offered me supplements the vet sponsors which is like 200 dollars more expensive then this supplement! Main point is there anyone here that has started natural supplements and what was the outcome? I am doing bitework because I am a parole officer and I thought it would be nice to have my own k9 to work with and take to events; so please do not tell me anything about being inexperienced.
Update:I wanted a k9 because my county holds events for law enforcement dogs. Such as search and find, bite work, and agility. Not only that but I also wanted a companion. I researched working dog breeds and found the Presa Canario to be the dog I wanted. I worked with both my k9s vet and his trainer to find out an exercising schedule and meal plan designed for his weight and what we are trying to achieve. He is naturally strong and he has high prey drive. In plain words he is a beautiful dog. I don't think he needs supplements, but I was wondering if they would really enhance his already defined muscles (not crazy muscles but rather natural looking muscles that were achieved through hard work). I think I myself am more stronger now too through all the exercise!!!

Honestly? Skip the supplements. Proper diet and exercise are best when building on what genetics already gave him.
You don't need supplements. High quality diet, and regular exercise will keep your dog lean.
If you are a parole officer why do you need a dog that does bite work exactly?
Why not talk to the local police station about the K9 work they do there?
He probably does not need a lean diet, raw meat, or supplements.
He needs a proper diet - good high quality dog food (organic or natural), proper exercise and proper training.
Why has he been pulling weights on a tread mill? Who recommended this?
Look at proper training and talk to professionals - look at the links posted.
