I had a deaf brother who was also born with Down's Syndrome.
Once he got older, he would always look up and around the room and laugh as though he was watching something. He'd actually be turning his head, constantly as though something were literally flying around the house. We, of course, wrote it off because of his being mentally handicapped.
THEN I brought him to my home to live with me so I could take care of him. I had 2 cats.
When my brother started "seeing things" again, we noticed the cats also looking all over exactly the same time HE was seeing something!!!!! Their heads and eyes would be looking everywhere my brother was looking. It definitely convinced us that my brother WAS actually "seeing" SOMETHING, and so help me, the cats proved that to us!!!
The best part is, the 2 cats passed away while I had him and we got 2 other kittens. Once these 2 NEW kittens got to be a little over a year old, sure as heck THEY started to "see" whatever on earth my brother was seeing. NONE of them ever tried to chase whatever it was. It amazed us how their heads would be turning and how they'd seem almost mesmerized by it, while whatever it was would make my brother laugh with glee.
And, I also have to add, that it seemed to occur at around the same time of the day, and when it didn't happen that we noticed it during the day, it would happen around the same time during the evening hours!!!
It did not happen EVERY day, but, it did quite frequently. AND, what really would blow our minds, was, when we'd be sitting all together in the living room and I'd say to my brother, who, as I've said, was born deaf, "Aww, isn't your angel here tonight?" Within a minute, he'd be seeing it and laughing once again. It freaked out my husband so much, and he said, "Don't say that anymore." You know how different people think about, maybe something wasn't being left to rest in peace. BUT, I HAD to prove to myself, that if I wouldn't see my brother react to anything for a few days, I would ask his angel to come visit him, and it WOULD!!! After awhile, YOU YOURSELF will begin to FEEL its' presence. And, don't let anyone have you think it's hogwash.
Sadly, my brother passed away almost 2 months ago. The cats no longer sit and watch anything anymore. I hope my brother's angel is now making him laugh in heaven. But, I sure could use an angel myself right now ease the pain and emptiness I now have in my heart since my "earth angel" is gone.
Your own guardian angel's presence is so strong, your cats DO know it's there.
It has been long believed cats have the ability to see into a "nether" world. For thousands of years, in fact. The Egyptians worshiped cats for their ability to communicate and be the intercessor with their gods. Superstitious Christians associated cats with witches and the ability to cross over into the spirit world.
Their senses are keen. I don't' have a story, but if any creature on earth has the ability to communicate with a spirit world, it will be a cat that proves that spirit world exists.
..Hi Angela, Great question, and with all my heart & soul, and after seeing/experiencing a few events with my cats, I have to say yes or I really want to say yes, they not only sense it, I believe they know there is a God..Now in human terms, because cats live more by instinct, I'm really not sure how to put this in to human thinking terms, but I will share a story or two and you can judge as you like and take what you want and leave the rest behind..In 1990/91, I was living on a military base in Shilo, Manitoba..We had 2 huge cats, tortoise shell..One night my husband was on the couch, I was at the dining room table and we keep looking at each other for no apparent reason, and one of the cats was on the steps leading upstairs..The cat also kept looking at us and we just kinda smiled and thought nothing of it until the cat meowed and jumped and took of like grease lightening, within seconds one of the lights the cat had been sitting beside literally blew up..#2..I woke up one morning, opened my door to outside, only to find my cat dead on the step..There were at least 10 cats all around her and when I talked to the neighbour about it later, cause I was very upset by her death, she asked me if I had heard all the cats howling or meowing in the night, of which I did not cause I was then, a very sound sleeper..She went on to say it had woke her up and when she looked outside, there were at least 25-30 cats, probably from around the base, they had literally formed a circle around the cat and were meowing all kinds of various noises..Lastly, and I will end with this one, although this is only 3 of many true stories I have been through over many years, and I am 55 yrs old now..I take in or rescue, if you will, a great many cats, of which I really cannot afford, but I do what I can and I do also work closely finding homes for as many as we can with the SPCA that is close by and that's a whole other story anyway..My first 2 cats since I moved here, 11 years ago, were of course abandoned..At that time, I had said no more pets for awhile..The huge 2 orange cats kept coming to my door, I live on the second floor so they had to climb 14 steps too..Winter was coming and I started feeding them, had to it's in my nature, and finally opened my door to them, only one came in that year the other the next..Last year "Baby" , which I called him passed away.. I think he had a stroke because suddenly he became paralysed from the waist down..Long story shorter, he dies at home after having him all those years..Now, the other part of this is the other orange cat was his follower, went with him everywhere, and he came in so did "Squeek", his name cause he can't meow..I made a coffin & a tombstone, and buried Baby, and I'm still not over his death.. The other cats behaviour I noticed over a few days had changed, drastically, and so much so I really thought he also was going to die, but still alive today, although not as spry as he used to be..He has never been the same and I know he fell into a depression because he wouldn't eat, he just laid around the house, and didn't want to go out either..All my other cats catered to him, laid beside him, would lick his face periodically, but more than usual..He is a bit better but I know even as old as he is, about 13-14 now, Baby's death aged him at least 5 years, and he really had never been the same..I found this to not only be very enlightening and educational where cats are concerned, but I also feel very blessed to have been there for him because not to many would have done or even noticed what I did..That's it for now, sorry it is so long but hope you find it worth the reading..When cats stare into places where no one is, I believe they do see something we cannot, be it an angel or what have you, but I know God made these caring beautiful animals for a reason and I can't think of a better way to begin and/or end my day than with a hug & a kiss from my soft furry friends....Take care..
