Well not all women who get the Mirena period's stop. Many still have irregular bleeding and spotting. I have had the Mirena for 3 months and have never had children. Insertion was the worst pain I ever experienced. And the cramping afterwards was unbearable until I was given strong pain medication. First week was pretty rough too. Since then I had one normal period. But I have had a lot of severe cramping and my doctor's suspect ovarian cysts. I am being monitored every month. But every woman is different. You may not experience any pain or side effects. I'm trying to hold out for 6 months to see if the cramping gets better. And removal is not painful. I had to have the first one removed because it slipped and a new one put in. So if you insurance covers the cost - go for it. Otherwise, if you are still unsure maybe try a different pill. I was on Ortho-Lo for a while and my PMS symtoms got worse. They switeched me to Cyclessa and that worked great for me.
