I want to invest in a Mac book air for my.college career. I'm a tech guy and a computer guy and I'm upgrading the entry level hardware to 8gb ram and 4th gen i7 pros sensor.
Now I can decide whether I should upgrade the SSD to 512gb as opposed to the standard 256 GB. I'm really on the fence about it and its a hefty 300$ premium. 1500$ vs 1800$
Its going to be strictly for internet browsing , and typing papers. no games , and no demanding software.
Does my rig satisfy my needs ? Should I make the upgrade to 512gb ? Thanks guys

If you aren't doing CPU intensive processes like gaming, stick with the cheapest i5 version you can get. For you, a 512gb SSD is overkill. Even if it doesn't sound like much, 256gb will hold every single paper and software you need for college and much much much more. 4gb of ram is fine as well, unless you're thinking of video editing and advanced photoshopping and etc. Please don't waste your money on upgrading your computer just because it looks better on paper. In reality, they won't make any difference to a college student.
What will you be majoring in? If you really will just be running things like Office and don't intend to store music or videos on the internal drive, you would probably be okay with just the 256 GB, but if you'll be running Windows also and/or using special software (like for engineering or graphics), you may want to get the extra space, since you won't be able to upgrade later on.
Don't get a Air, get a Pro.
