So I am in the middle of typing a very important document and I get this crazy message that says there is some crazy error and my doc is gone. It save a txt file on the desktop, but it is all in crazy characters. I tried to save it as a doc file, but the crazy characters stayed.
Is there any way to save all the work I just lost. I am absolutly freaked right now.
I just took a shot of Jack and opened a beer and am waiting patiently for somebody to PLEASE help me!!!
Update:HI guys, you are being really helpful. I am using Word 2007, and the thing is the last file change I can find is from 2/2/08. This is a document I have been working on weekly for months and all the changes since the beginning of Feb seem to be completly gone.
All the imported data from excel is not a big deal becuase excel is still in tact, it is all the conclusions and infrerences about the data that are completly gone

Which program where you typing in? Is there a chance of a backup copy (do you have the auto save function enabled)?
It could be that the file is corrupted and you will just have to start over.
Not saying it will work, but this has worked sometimes in the past:
Open a new file, type an X at the top of the document. Insert the "other file" (using the insert option) and then delete the X. Save the file (new name) and close out and open it again.
Wow, dude. You have to have a drink because you lost a document on your computer? What do you do when you have a real problem?
The crazy characters are there because whatever format it was in when it was saved, the program you are using to open it can't read them. Try opening it with a different program, like Works or something like that. That should work. It's a little hard to help you because you don't really say what format you were using to begin with. You could also try looking in "Recent Documents" and/or opening anything saved as "Untitled Document."
well, ur document may have somehow been saved. go onto watever program u were typing the document in and see if it says somethign like restore this document. if u r using a Mac though, u may need to start all over.

get your spybot, adaware, AVG and ccleaner and start cleaning the crap off your hard drive and out of your registry
