I'm starting to do computer work for people in their home. I offer the first 20 miles of travel at no extra cost, but any additional mileage after that I would like to charge (to cover gas, or lunch breaks since I'm 20+ miles out). What's an appropriate per mileage fee. I was thinking $0.25/mile, and remember, this is after the 20th mile. I also thought about round-trip charges, but figured the $0.25/mile to get from my home to theirs and back would cover round-trip.

i too have started doing this. personally i am certified so everything i do is worth a little more than a person with no certifications, but i charge $0.45/mile(after 25), part of that is also because my car gets really bad gas mileage. most businesses will pay their salespeople $0.50/mile i believe, i will say it is mainly up to you, if you are good at your work people won't mind paying a little extra over the guy who doesn't quite know what he is doing
