I plan to go on a cruise for my honeymoon in October 2009 for approx. 7 days. I am not sure whether to go to the Mexican Riviera or the Caribbean. I am quite concerned about the weather situation- ie hurricanes etc. If anyone could help me this would be much appreciated.

There is no way to predict exactly what the weather will be in either locations. Mexico on the Pacific side typically gets fewer hurricanes, if any, than the Caribbean. If you payed attention to the hurricane season this year you saw that at least one hurricane developed in the Caribbean south of Cuba and then went northeast. That's not the usual hurricane track of crossing the Atlantic from Africa and then entering the Caribbean. And then there was a hurricane that developed in the Caribbean in November, supposedly after the hurricane season. So Mexico may be safer but it can have storms too.
We did a Mexico cruise a couple, years ago out of LA and a hurricane caused us to miss one of our port stops. We didn't have any bad weather but the cruise ship changed its itinerary to stay away from the hurricane.
You may want to consider a couple of other options:
-Instead of going on your honeymoon as soon as the wedding is over, delay going until December or January when a hurricane will be highly unlikely and not an issue.
-Consider going on a different 7-day itinerary like the Mediterranean, or New England/Canada, or some other European itinerary. These would make the issue of a hurricane moot.
Cruises going to these other locations can be just as much fun. The major difference is you may not have an opportunity to play in the ocean.
I vote for Mexico. I love the Mayan Ruins. The Caribbean is good to if you like the beach, but I find Mexico to be more interesting.
Cruise ships are good at working around bad weather. It doesn't mean you won't get more wind or a little rain, but they avoid most of the bad weather.
If this is your first cruise, just throw a dart and go for it. You'll have a blast anywhere you go. Cruising is fun and a great idea for a honeymoon.
If you wait until November, the hurricane season is over and very few occur after that. Either cruise would be wonderful and pretty similar, but I like the caribbean better. You don't have to worry about drinking the water in the Caribbean like you do Mexico. Just a thought for ya.
Do the Caribbean cruise. Great! Much better than Mexico where you will be hounded by beggars and merchants will try to sell you cheap silver and knockoff goods.
Hurricanes are still active in October in both areas.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but its very rainy and windy in both these areas in October due to it being the hurricane season.
However, that being said it doesn't mean you will have a bad time, or bad weather, it is just a bit more of a gamble.
Places like Cancun is situated on the Caribbean sea, so you may be able to find a suitable cruise that blends in both.
Go for the Caribbean,
I went in December and it was fine,It was really beautiful and for a Honeymoon it would be wonderful!...
Make sure you go for the right Cruise liner though,I went on the Norwegian Dawn which was amazing and i recommend it to you.Make sure you choose a good one or your whole holiday will be ruined.
I have to cast my vote for Mexico... We are going on a 8 day from San Diego on the 26th of Oct. Have no worries about the weather at all, as we have been on many cruises this time of the year. Have fun!
Caribbean
You can't predict the weather. Chose the destinations you like best.
