I have 2 ryukins and an oranda in my 50 gallon. I just got them a few days ago. But they won't surface to eat. They are all healthy and when the flake food sinks down they will go after it and eat it. I have sinking food, but I also have Hikari Gold Baby Gold floating food (it comes in a pink package)I want them to eat. My fantail in my 30 gallon will come up to eat, but they won't! It's so frustrating.
Is there anything I can do to lure them to the top? Or am I going to have to wait for them to do it on their own? Are they adjusting to their environment? I've never had a goldfish not go for food at the top. Thanks : )

they are just adjusting..they need to understand the feeding pattern..which will take time..also soak all the food for 3-4 minutes before feeding..i feed the floating hikari pellets..but i soak them in the tank water for at least 10 min...i was surprised to see how much the pellets bloat up after soking in the water..tht way it wont affect the goldies with swim bladder...i soak flakes and everything before feeding..it sinks and the goldies dont have to come to the surface..which is very good for their health...
:) I would go buy pellets... those take longer. OR... this might sound mean... but they are survivors... so... dont feed them a few days... Like 3 days... no food... then they might surface and *poke* around... when they do this... try adding the pellets... They take longer to sink... so they cant wait for them to go to the bottom. I would put about 6 pellets inside the water. That way there is not alot of waste if they dont eat them all.
If this does not work... wait the three days. you can use a lazer to catch their attention... and when they surface put in the food. Once you use this method I would suggest using the same method always for that tank!
They will not starve in the three days... they will pick the rocks... there is always food wasted in the bottom.
Chances are they are just adjusting. You have the golfish in the 50 gallon? Well, they could just be preoccupied with enjoying all the room! They should start surfacing within a few days. My fish did the same thing too.
They are adjusting,My goldfish did the same thing when I put them in my horse traugh. They may take a few days to come up,because they are shy,and need to get used to their surroundings.
THey have to realize that you are feeding them. It is what you have to show beta fish! Wait til they come up to the topish of the water then put it in! I hope I helped!!
.do a water change, check the temperature, check for health issues, temperature has to be in the 60s for them to thrive
