I have a JVC Compact VHS video camera (from the late 90's). It uses small video cassettes that fit into an adapter to play on the VCR, but you can't transfer to a DVD from the adapter. Does anyone know how to transfer such a cassette directly from the video camera to DVD?

ANALOG
*If you have an analog (VHS) camcorder… or VHS-c...
You need an analog converter, either internal card or external such as the dazzle. It's very easy to use and come with good software. You would hook your analog VHS camera or VCR to the analog converter, the dazzle and then hook the dazzle to your PC. The dazzle cost around 85.00 , but worth the money if you have a lot of VHS to tapes to convert.
Anytime you convert analog to digital, you will lose quality, but loss of quality is better than losing all those old memories.
**Please Note There is no 8mm or Hi 8 to VHS Adapter that currently exists. This type of VHS Adapter only exists with VHS-C tape
They also make VHS to DVD recorders and they work fine for home movies that you don't want to edit. They do not work on copyrighted DVD's.
Are you tryig to do this VIA a VHS/DVD combo unit? you may find that it will be better if you use the AV cables from your camera to the Unit, select the input souorce and press record on your dvd recorder, and play on the camera. mos people have a DVD burner in their computers, its not difficult, to get a Analogue to digital converter to hook up your camera to the computer, you will get better results doing it that way as you can edit the video before you put it onto a disk. no one wnat s the mistakes, left camera on out of focus, or shakey shots.

in most cases the better the quality of the device the better the quality, (up to a point)

you have to play the tapes in real time into a hardisk recorder or DVD recorder using AV cables , composite, component or s-VHS/+audio cable( s-vhs has no audio )
