For example, what college courses or programs do I take to become a certified electrician?
Update:visnaray: do they walk you through it, or do I need some knowledge of electricity and works before applying for those courses in college?

It's not a college level course.
You need to complete some courses at a technical school, pass a license exam, and then become apprenticed to an experienced electrician. But this does vary from country to country and state to state.
