Alternatively if you don't have Microsoft Word, and don't want to something useless like Wordpad or Notepad, you can download OpenOffice for free. Works with Microsoft office files too.

Open Word and start typing (or another program like Notepad)

Open Microsoft Word...Write what you have to write... then save it...
