How do I know what kind of engine I have? My 2000 Impala ls started jerking when accelerating and a mechanic told me its likely bad fuel and moisture in the tank. He said to get some stuff from the auto parts store, dump it in, and flush it out with a higher octane gas. Oh. And switch gas stations. Does this make sense?

This can be true.I ve worked on cars that had the same issue. They switched gas(to higher octane and gas stations) and the problem went away.try what the mechanic said first. It'll clean your injectors out anyway. If this doesnt work get the engine checked out.
Hi.. remove air intake tube at the throttle body assy , and look at the butterfly valve. If its black and dirty, no amount of fuel additive will fix the jerking. The assy has to come out and cleaned. If it is clean like new, check vacume hoses for leaks. Enjoy.
Nope not at all. Sounds like you got worse problems try a different mechanic
yes cheep gas can cause that
