i have rented a property since march 2012 and renewed our contract on the 1st sept 2012 i have just found out that my landlord has only just put my deposit in a scheme, i know this as i have letters proving its not with any scheme, he came up today to bring me my copy of the contract which i should of had in sept but when i looked over it he has added into the contract where the deposit is held which wasnt there when i signed it is this contract void now as there was no witteness when he added it into the aggreement
Update:i have proof he didnt secure my deposit as well within 30 days so he did it today and told them we started the tenancy on 1st sept but we started it on the 1st march 2012

No, that doesn't void the contract.
There are some local laws about how a security deposit must be handled, but mishandling the deposit doesn't void the contract.
When the contract is altered like that, what the landlord should have done is have you initial where it was changed. But, it's not a significant change so it would still be valid.
Even if you could find a way to void the contract. When you pay the rent that creates a new contract. And that new contract will default to whatever was in the old contract.
There's no scenario where you can live there and get out of paying rent. So there's no benefit to you voiding the contract.
You are suppose to get a copy of the contract as soon as you sign, before you leave, on the spot, if you didn't, then you must find a way to prove he did what you say.
Do you have any proof that the contract he now has isn't the copy you signed? If not, then you're SOL.
