I recorded the Port-Melbourne game and am watching it again, in the 4th quarter it was mentioned that today was the launch of the one port adelaide campaign, one of the options being put forward is dissolving the Port adelaide magpies( and sever any ties with the SANFL, for many years they have used port as a cash cow, i would thoroughly support such an idea.) Apparently well known Port Power and Port Magpie identities were present(eg Fiachhi, Ebert, Ginever) and wish to combine all assets and have just the one club.
SANFL have only ever been interested in the crows, which was their preference for AFL solely to keep Port Adelaide out, what are your thoughts
Update:totally agree shifty we would be far better off without the SANFL,
Update 3:yes again shifty, they do recieve what is assured under the licence, but please also check what is taken out under that licence and see how much it costs port adelaide to play a home game at aami
facts and small print can be made to do many things. it costs the power a fortune to play at aami, doubt it ring the power and ask
Update 5:shifty if it were not so why is there such an anti sanfl feeling at the power among its supporter base. the very strong feeling is totally anti SANFL

ray. the sanfl is sucking the life out of the port adelaide club. the ties should have been cut when they joined the big league. but they decided to keep their options open. but as you,and every other power supporter know. that was huge mistake. and now they should just end it with the sanfl. and stand alone. and receive guidance from the AFL. as they where the 1s that wanted the port adelaide brand in their league. to start with.
i cant imagine. what the sanfl is going to look like without port adelaide in it. because it basically was the sanfl. but they will leave a wonderfull legacy. 1 that will never be topped.
cheers.
another proposal given air is that the AFL take over the licence of the power and totally cut any link with the SANFL the power will struggle as long as the SANFL continue their animosity towards Port Adelaide. when the second licence came up the SANFL still did not want Port in the AFL and fought against it. a poll of all AFL coaches at that time all wanted Port. their home state controllers did not. the biggest supporter Port had in its bid for the AFL may surprise. it was kevin Sheedy
Yep it should have happened when we joined the AFL back in 97, splitting the two clubs has only hurt the sanfl & Port by doing not keeping one club.
I heard Dwyane say that we should just have a reserves team & forget about the Port Magpies & move on. A while ago i wouldnt of agreed but i do think now is the time to move on.
Interesting to understand one point of view as to where the antagonism between Port and Crows comes from. Thanks.
One question though .... "and play their next grade down of football, where?". The Swans play reserves in Canberra and that's less than satisfactory for them apparently. Are you proposing Port joins the VFL or WAFL?
That would be kind of ironic if they preferred to play with Victorians than South Australians :-)
Sounds like a reasonable proposition
