PAL/NTSC query.?
How do I make a dvd on my UK Sony HXD910 recorder that I can send to the US and will play there on NTSC equipment. Or is the US similar to us, in that most recent players/TV's will display picture and sound from home burnt DVDs that have no region code. (I want to send a family home move on dvd) ( I know how to copy dub etc with the machine, it's the NTSC bit that's puzzling me, I cant see anything in the menu's or the handbook!)

It doesn't actually matter with DVD's, only VHS.
The players normally 'detect' the format & output it correctly to the tv.
If it is an NTSC player connected to an NTSC TV it WILL play fine....only problems when trying to use it between formats.
NTSC has a slightly better quality.
Most of the newer DVD player out there can read multiple format, including NTSC/PAL and SECAM.
Ask your friend in US if his/her player can play both format, if can, then there should not ba any problem sending the home made video.
a UK dvd player will only play region free or region 2 dvd's
if your mate in america has a region 2 dvd player, or if your DVD is region free it should work fine.
i think US is region 1. check this on an electronics site or post a question asking what region US is for DVDs.

if you have a dvd burner on your pc you can do it there, i have the option of pal/ntsc on my software when i build a DVD, i use Roxio 8 media

Doesn't it go by regions now with dvd's, and not PAL or NTSC.
There is software you can buy that does this for you.I use Muvies 5 but I expect there are free downloads on the internet that you can use try downloads.com.
rip it as an mpeg and then burn as a vcd otherwise you have a load of encoding decoding and headache to get through
