I love my Weatherby rifles and hunt big game with them exclusively.
On the other hand, Ruger make a lot of gun for the money. I own their pistols, revolvers, shotguns and rifles. Let's look at what they make:
Ruger 10/22. The classic by with all others are judged.
Ruger M77. Great bolt-action rifle at an affordable price
Ruger Red Label. Out of the box, these over/unders fit best.
Ruger Blackhawk series. Classic design using modern steels.
Ruger Mark I, II, III pistols. The pistol equivalent of the 10/22
Ok, but I also have a soft spot for Remington. Most branches of the US Military use the Model 700 rifle actions for their sniper work. Their model 870 is the pump-action shotgun by which all others are judged; great for law enforcement, home protection and hunting.
Ok, so given the above...I guess I have to go with Ruger. They make a wide variety of sturdy firearms that are both pleasing to the eye and affordable.
rifles: Winchester with Ruger being a close second
shotguns: Winchester
revolvers: Ruger
pistols: Springfield
I would say classic Winchester would win however with the company dropping most of it's lineup the current award goes to Ruger, everything's well made, affordable and fun to shoot
The Clash Paramore Queen Iron Maiden The Beatles Oasis Guns N Roses Nirvana The Rolling Stones Rage Against the Machine David Bowie Bob Dylan The Who Joan Jett and the Blackhearts MCR Muse Red Hot Chili Peppers The Velvet Underground Ramones Sex Pistols The All-American Rejects Coldplay
I'm in partial agreement with Kush Slayer. My Tula Mosin Nagant is very nice, incredibly reliable, and accurate as hell. But like I said, PARTIAL agreement. My friend's colt law enforcement carbine LE6920 is pretty damn nice and well made, too, although I prefer the look of older guns. The little Walther p22 is pretty good, as far as plinksters go. My Bersa Thunder 380 is incredibly nice, especially considering it was dirt cheap. And I'd love to have a Sig 556 classic, or a Romanian AK47. But over all, I'd have to say Bersa is my all time favorite. They make great guns at a great price, and they have a lifetime warranty(at least on the one I bought). Their thunder branch makes some nice pistols(like the thunder 380, 22, 32, 9, 40, 45). But their Firestorm branch makes some incredibly nice pistols, too. I LOVE the firestorm 1911. Supposedly just like the Kimber(very nice), only cheaper.
LMT or Bravo Company Machine= best combat ready AR15s at a reasonable price range (Noveske is about the best but too $$$).
Hunting/ precision/ tactical rifles = Remington (just for the 700)
Handguns= I like too many, but I hate H&K (not for their products, but do to their por customer service and that they don't care what civilians want only what large governement buyers want)
S&W is borderline (once again great products, but they sold out to the anti-crowd with the built in gun lock that adds one more part that can fail at a bad time).
Ruger makes my favorite handguns, I have a couple, and the most used out of my bunch is my Redhawk. With possible millions of "full-house" shells run through it, it still locks up as tightly as they day it was made.
Shotguns? Ithaca Gun corp. No competition. Find me any other gun that is as well built or finely finished...
Rifles? Tricky tricky. It's either my 1912 S.A. 1903A1 or my 1899 Krag Jorgensen... hmm... damn dilemmas!
Probably my favorite would be Browning, even though I have never owned one. The favorite between firearms that I have purchased and companies that are still in operation, would be between Springfield Armory and DPMS. Two completely different firearms with completely different uses, but good at what they do.

I love my Rugers, but lately Springfield Armory has been getting my cash! I have an XD .40 subcompact and an XDM 9mm.
