I just got rid of my decent entry level bike with Sora components and and wasnt expensive. I am not ready for an extreme elite bike but i want a good bike thats good intermediate level under $1000 ( and by that i dont mean $999) in the range of 800 and under. I could care less about weather its sora or not i just want integrated.
wrap up -------------------800 and under--upper entry level bike----not from like the 70s (newer model)

There are several bikes in your price range from Fuji, Raleigh, and KHS. Your best option is to visit bike shops. This is the time of year when they are blowing out all 2008 models to make room for 2009.
There are good deals out there but you have to be patient and willing to buy from a previous model year. Often all that means is some minor component changes or a different color. No big deal.
Last November I managed to snag a Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Coast To Coast, the 9sp Tiagra model, for $750 on clearance. Regular shop price was $950 and the MSRP on Bianchi's website was $999.99.
The bike even came with a Shimano WH-R500 wheelset which is better than what the website specs. (sometimes the specs get changed but it worked out in my favor)
It's a great looking and riding bike. The closest I've seen anyone advertising it for anywhere near that price is Jenson USA for $845. I almost feel like I stole it!
