First, you should know, avi is a media container format which can be encoded with many different codecs, such as divx, xvid, mjpeg, mpeg, h264, etc, so ps3 don't supports any avi files, and as I know, the best videos format for PS3 is mp4(h.264/avc video encode, aac audio encode), so I think, you just need to use a right software to convert avi to ps3 mp4. I am using RZ Video Converter which can convert any videos or audios between different formats with good quality, such as convert avi to ps3 mp4, etc. Yahoo or google search and download RZ Video Converter. Hope it can help you.
Hmm, I can't really explain that!
If all the formats are the same then there is no real reason why the ones that do play should differ from the ones that don't.
The only thing that I can think of is that some of the files might be corrupt.
Did you download all of them from the same place or get them from different servers?
Don't forget that if you don't own the originals on DVD or BluRay then downloading them from the internet might be classed as copyright theft!
