i will be using this computer for gaming, and i have never overclocked and am hesitant to do so.

I'm partial to intel, but honestly that's mostly just because they market better. According to http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html you're going to get a lot more bang from the AMD, and the specs make sense to me that it would be faster. I've heard of a couple of compatibility headaches with AMD occasionally, but I think it's your better bet.
Those 2 CPU's are very similar but the intel one offers better performance in terms of single threaded applications or dual-threaded ones (most of the time). This is the case of most video games. The advantages of the AMD cpu would be on heavily multithreaded applications or running multiple parallel programs, and with extreme overclock. Since that is not your case, I would definitely opt for the 3570K, you should also keep in mind that the release of the newer haswell based 4570k will be out in less then 20 days at a similar price point !
***EDIT**
funny how instead of comparing two products people get to compare brand names. I think the asker was pointing out two products in direct competition, and in the same price range, if I were asking I would like people to respect that =/
I've never, ever used an intel core. Always been happy with AMD. So i can't give you unbiased opinion here. I would recommend AMD however i have heard intel cores are getting better and better these days. Guess the only thing to do is look up reviews on the cores you have picked out on the forums.
Obviously go with intel, AMD is good but you should only get amd if you are on a udget or trying ot save money.
It has been a while since I have shopped but AMD's tend to get better performance for gaming. It is very subjective however because one can outperform another on different games. You might consider a google search for a comparison specific to the game you will be playing the most to see which is better.
intel it offers a wider option of operating systems amd is windows only and from my experience more trust worthy amd is good but intel is better
intel is the best due to the multi threading it offers but get the amd processor if you wish to get a cheap but good processor but if you have the money, intel is they way to go
I love my AMD FX CPU. It's great for gaming. I have never used a more responsive chip before. It really depends on what you do though. I play games such as WoT and minecraft, as well as heavy multitask and I never freeze/lag.
Everytime I went AMD my PC overheated or died a sad death; Intel gets my vote
I would say go ahead with the Intel chip.
