I have been really sad lately. Not sleeping, or enjoying anything.
I'm not doing classwork since I am finding it hard to focus and find it pointless. I have no friends, no one likes me.
Also, I am pretty much completely mute and only say a few words at home. My teachers at school ask me questions but i don't speak.
I am 14..
what is causing this?

yes it can
It can develop randomly but gradually. It can happen because of some reasons. You are just not inspire of school because you have no friends there.
You have to work on your social skills to gain confidence and friends. People need to socialize.
Depression is a serious mental illness and it can cause too much time and money treating it. So fight it before you have it. I wish you well. You can fight this.
It is great that you are reaching out to talk about how you are feeling. It sounds like there is a lot going on in your life. Dealing with feelings of depression can be really hard when you feel like people don’t like you or feel stuck in a certain situation. It is important that you find ways to help yourself work through this.
First, find a supportive, trusting adult to talk with. An adult can help you make healthy decisions for yourself and see that you get the help that you need should you need to see a doctor or counselor. We always suggest talking with a parent. If you can’t talk with a parent, try writing a letter to open up communication to have this type of conversation. You need support. Call a hotline if you need some help making that conversation happen. Counselors are there 24/7. Next, find healthy ways to deal and distract yourself. Having healthy coping is so important. They won’t fix everything that is not right or not well but they can certainly redirect your train of thought and redirect your thoughts and actions for a while. Finally, be good to yourself. Your mental body and physical body work hand in hand with one another. When one suffers the other suffers. So it is important to make healthy decisions for yourself. Eat healthy, drink plenty of water, get some sleep and exercise a little bit every day. It doesn’t have to be heavy duty exercise, unless you like it , but rather just a short walk, jump rope, dance, play some hoops, or something that you can do for a 20-30 minutes. It makes all the difference. Sincerely, NS, counselor

Depression is common but easy to treat. Depression means your brain is not producing sufficient serotonin.
Tell a dr. how you feel and ask for Zoloft, an excellent antidepressant.-----------It takes 2-3 wks for your body to adjust, during which time you will have trouble staying asleep. But after that, you will be a whole new, happy, healthy person.
You need to get more sleep, and you need to change your diet.
