I am a very athletic person and played all sports growing up except for golf. I don't have a golf background at all and didn't know any of the rules. However I learn any sport or can be good at any hobby extremely fast. I'm 22 years old and first picked up a golf club 3 months ago when I was hired at a local course. I don't have time to play 18 straight holes so I play 9 before work and 9 after. 3 months ago I was shooting in the 60's - 70's range! The reason I say I learn quick is because I'm shooting an even par and some days 2-3 strokes under par! I'm rarely ever shoot over 42 on 9 holes. On the regular I shoot mid to upper 30's on 9 holes. Do I have a chance to play professionally someday?

1. What tees are you playing from? Front, back, middle?
2. What is the slope and yardage of your course?
3. Are you assuming you're shooting in the 60s and 70s because you shoot 38 or 39 on nine?
4. Are you counting every stroke? If the ball goes out of bounds, do you drop where it went out or do you walk back to where you hit the shot before? Do you ever pick up your ball on the green or do you putt everything in?
5. Do you walk or ride?
My bet is that you answer at least a few of these questions the "wrong" way and are actually a much worse player than you think. If you can play on a difficult course from the back tees, walking, and shoot par or better for 18 holes counting EVERY stroke, making EVERY putt, following EVERY rule and you can do this under pressure, you have a shot at being a pro.
The short answer: No.
A round of golf is 18 holes. If you want to become a pro, you must play 18 in one day. Sometimes you will need to play 36 in one day.
The reason it's important is that it's very difficult to maintain consistency for 18 holes. I have very few rounds where the front and back nine are the same score. Sometimes, there can be 6 strokes difference between the nines.
To be a professional, you need to make very few mistakes over 18 holes, 4 days in a row, on the toughest golf courses in the world. If you do make a mistake, you need to be able to recover from it.
And the fact that you are "rarely" shoot over 42 is not going to work in your favor. If a pro shoots a 42 for 9, you better have about a 29 or 30 on the other 9. Otherwise, you take the weekend off with no pay.
You also didn't tell us how tough the course is. A 35 on your little neighborhood course is not the same as a 35 at Pebble Beach or Augusta National.
I won't even mention playing in tournaments. It's one thing to shoot 35 when nobody is watching. But try sinking a 10 foot putt with Tiger, Phil or Rory staring you in the face.
Age 22 is not too late. Now that you know this is your calling and your passion, go for the green! When it comes to golf if you love it enough no other human can stand in your way of making it to the top! That is not the case in baseball, football, hockey, or basketball where a dumb coach can screw you up. If you have a passion for golf and BELIEVE you can go all the way you will. Some way or some how, you better make time to play golf everyday. Be a martial so that you can play all the golf you want for free if you don't have the bread. A great man once said, if you believe you can or believe you can't you are right! Combine this BELIEF with passion and a bull dog determination and you will make it to the top, fall to the prey of dis-belief and you will want to go back to law school. Today sports and music is where the really big big money is, not in becoming a doctor or lawyer.
Keep it up and you will be on your way to playing in the PGA tour! Ive been playing for about 9 years now and usually keep my score around par. If you get to where you are consistently shooting around par or even under par then I would say you definitely have a chance to play professionally! I would suggest you start off by playing in some local tournaments and see where that takes you. Best of luck and happy golfing!
Young man(I presume) - I don't care if you're Superman, pe se - NO ONE can do THAT in 3 months.
I've played the game for 57 yrs - got as low as a 4-handicap - was a 'natural' as young as 12 - broke par 3 times in my life - was NEVER that good as what you claim to be.
I hate to be a bit of a procrastinator - but you're telling a TALL TALE here - about the golf at least.
Cheers - enjoy the game and NEVER 'brag' - it will only bring you grief.
Yes there is no age limit.
But you need to have a handicap and enter some comps, just to see how you perform at different courses and under game conditions.
If you get a +3 handicap then you can turn pro, and enter comps, its not too difficult, but you have to invest time and money, and maybe have a year off work if you can afford it. But better to try it now than regret it forever.
Cute joke i was a natural in golf started golf 6 mountes ago and even i cant hit in the 70's and 60's dont brag in golf it will hurt you in the futute
Good joke, There is no way anyone could pick up gold that quick. Sorry but not a chance it takes years for a talented young golfer to do that good so you're obviously lying or using a magic pencil for your score.
Doubtful
You realize pros dedicate their lives to the game since childhood. They also play courses 10X more difficult than wherever you play. and yes, I've played some of the courses pros play and did terrible. Keep playing though, it's a fun hobby
I also have doubts about your scoring. Make sure to count the drives... and no mulligans.
better than me good luck!
