When i brought my moped, my friend told me to run the bike until the petrol has completely gone, due to stale petrol as the bike hasnt been used in ages when i brought the bike. i'm now almost out and noticing a loss in power? is this due to low petrol?

BADD advise. Running completely out means you push to the nearest fuel station.
This is what he meant, There is a valve on the bottom of the tank called Petcock, when the bike sputters and coughs the main tank is empty, turn it to the rear for reserve, this has a little fuel, I don't know how much a moped carries, It's enuff to get you to a fuel station, Keep $5 on you or hidden on the bike for emergencies.
Fill the fuel tank, reset the TRIP meter, it is like the mileage meter but resettable, it will have a knob or push button near it and turn the petcock back to Main/ON. When that tank sputters, go to reserve( only takes a few seconds) and read the trip meter, this is how far you can go on a tank, remember that number.
It is IMPORTANT to turn back to the main tank, if you don't you'll you'll run thru the main tank and the reserve, that's where the push part comes back.
Just to be sure, go check the valve to be sure it isn't on the reserve now.
Come to think of it, your friend may not know this, that's why he thinks it's normal to run out of fuel.
Replacing the tank will enhance the fuel left, or dilute the new fuel by the old crap.
You bought a sitting bike, gas tanks that sit condense water out of the air, water is heavier than fuels so it settles to the bottom and gets sucked into the carb.
Look at the petcock ,if it has a position called PRIme it will drain the tank and the reserve, this is a little technical but not difficult.
Follow the fuel line down to the carb, remove the hose and drain it into a bucket can for disposal, put the hose back on and fill with new fuel.
No, it doesn't. Just before it runs out completely, you may notice the revs rise. If it's a 2-stroke moped then don't run it dry because your lubrication oil is mixed with the petrol. The drop in power is probably just that you are getting more used to the bike.
Could be, sometimes they choke themselves a little so they wont run completely out of gas, its not good on the fuel pump. Just fill it up now, even if it does have a little stale gas it wont matter, their will be more good gas, and percentage wise it wont affect its ability to run.
