I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Vista. Out desktop computer's monitor is broken, but the CPU is fine. It has XP.
The laptop has the same plug on the side as the monitor, so it could hook up to the CPU.
What my question is, is if i plug it in, can I get the pictures, videos, and other stuff off of the Desktop, and how.
Thanks :)
Update:All I want to do is see the files on it, not use the laptop as a screen, i just need to transfer the files from the desktop, to laptop.

The VGA monitor port on computers is OUT only. You would need to borrow a monitor or buy a new one.
Once you do that you could move the files to the laptop by burning them to a CD or using a USB pen drive. There are also USB transfer cables available.
you cannot use the monitor of the vaio to connect an external video source, this could go if you had a video in connection on the vaio and then look by video capture. But the vaio has no video in, so forget that option, better get a new screen for the desktop.
You need to buy a wireless router. Whether it be an internal or external, you need that to pick up the signal to your base or home network. Then if you don't already have WiFi built into your laptop, you also need that too. You can buy that also to plug into a USB port on the laptop.
