If you use a memory card reader, the computer will see the memory card as a virtual device (drive d, e, f, etc.). You can find your image on the computer and copy/drag it to the memory card. Then insert the card into your camera. The file must be in the same format as the one the camera uses.
On some cameras, when attached via the usb cable, the camera/memory card can be seen as the virtual device by the computer. You'd follow the same procedure as above. In a few cases, you can do the same with the built-in memory of the camera.
I've had success with these techniques before, as I can download photos from email, or transfer them back to the camera after modifying them in the computer.
