Of the above four, which would you prefer?
-I'm going to be a college student living on my own, five hours from home, so fuel efficiency is very important to me.
-The smaller the better! (I'm currently driving an eclipse, so a smaller jump in size is preferable.)
-MUST BE RELIABLE, as I am definitely not a mechanic and will most likely not be able to afford one often.
Any opinions?

The Chevy gets the best fuel economy in that class. I believe they are all about the same size as well. Finally, the Chevy may not be as reliable as the Honda, but it should be better than the Nissan and on par with the Toyota. A brand new, 2010 Equinox has an MSRP of roughly $23k. Considering you have a car to trade in, all the year end and holiday deals and the fact that dealers are hurting for sales, you should be able to negotiate the price much lower than that.
I like the chevy Equinox.
If your in college, a honda civic would be best
Although if you insist on an SUV,
Id take the CRV
when I was in college, i had a scooter LOL :)
if you want reliability get the Honda or the Toyota
