When i plugged in my pc to an outlet, there was a spark and it started smoking. It won't turn on and all i need to know is if the hard drive will still work. Thanks!
Update:ok my friend tested out the mb and it works! Now the hard drive...
I connect it and it won't work. I get a "Code Purple" Message!

Possibly. Sounds like the PSU has gone wrong, was the voltage setting on it set to the voltage rating for your region? You can either remove the HDD and place it in a donor system as a secondary drive to check it, or replace the PSU and see what happens. As a PSU has a secondary in-line fuse then, more than likely, the rest of the system should be OK.
The short could have been issue with several things
1 the power supply which may have been failing and gave out
2 the motherboard which may have had some type of bad contact
Its likely that the hard drive is fine.
Goo and but and "sata" to usb adapter and test it out with another computer but be careful if the hard drive is what caused the short it may mess up your other PC as well

Yes the harddrive will be fine you caused a short when you plugged it in but the harddrive will be fine dont worry.
You shorted out your motherboard. 50-50 chance your HD is safe,
