If you want to edit the start button, meaning design your own interface and stuff, i think this tool will help you. It's called the XN Resource Editor. You can literally open the explorer.exe file and change the start button, or anything you want.

About speeding up the system, u can speed up the start up by typing msconfig in run, and unckecking the unneccessary stuff fromt he startup tab. But be carefull when working with these tools, if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it...u can crash your system!

as far as the screen saver goes, there are free ones on the internet. I also use Window Blinds on my comp. which changes the skin of your comp.
