Una nota a tomar en cuenta, es que Tupac lanzó más canciones después de su muerte que estando en vida. Era extremadamente dedicado a su trabajo durante su corta carrera. Aún se lanzan nuevas canciones y remixes de su música. Según su amigo de banda Shock-G, Tupac muchas veces escribía hasta 3 canciones por día. Después de su muerte Tupac se convirtió en un símbolo del rap.

Muchas grabaciones de Tupac han sido editadas póstumamente, aunque hay dudas sobre si él habría pensado que mucho de ese material era digno de ser liberado. Los derechos de su música pertenecen a Amaru Entertainment, que es controlado por Afeni Shakur, su madre. Tupac Foundation tiene los derechos de autor, y además ha construido Tupac Amaru Shakur Center For The Arts en Stone Mountain, Georgia.
