Mail is carried by private contractors mostly, between Distribution Centers, airports and other postal facilities. I'm retired from USPS and worked most Sundays and holidays for many years, right up until I retired after 26 years. Your local post office is closed on Sunday but many of the larger ones are still staffed, getting ready for the next delivery day.

There is no such thing as USPS Ground. USPS is the post office. UPS, the guys in the brown trucks, does have Ground service and so does FedEx.
