The role of an accompanist to a singer is a collaborative one, providing solid music support in an artistic partnership. Although being an accompanist to singers is an artistic partnership, you should realize that the focus is always on the singers and not on you.
Work closely with the singers, always varying the dynamic level of your accompaniment to make certain that the singers' voices are always heard. It is helpful to keep an open mind, when singers make suggestions to you, and follow those suggestions if you deem the suggestions to be viable. Depending on your music education and experience, you may be able to offer tips to the singers towards creating a unique experience for the audience.
Be absolutely certain that your contribution as an accompanist is duly acknowledged by the singers before or after a performance. If there is a printed program that is distributed to the audience, make certain that your name is listed in the program.
