So I just got a shiny new HP Pavilion, and it has nothing on it but a few Steam games I just installed. I tried to hook up my old WD Scorpio Blue 16GB via USB, and it just won't show up. Anywhere. I checked disk manager and it wasn't there to "Import foreign drive". Is it even possible to hook up my old hard drive? thanks for any answers.
Update:I am powering it, and it registered on my old laptop (I just got this, as I said)

esata wont power a drive, it only sends data, you still need external power for your drive to work.
So you need to buy some kind of external enclosure that can provide external power and use esata for the interface.
You could also look into usb external enclosures. They can power a 2.5" drive with the power of usb alone. BUT you will need to use both usbs to power it, most external usbs have a Y split usb cable, so 1 usb can provide power, while the other is the data cable.
If you buy one that is usb 3.0, you only need a single usb3.0 cable since usb3.0 prodives more then 2x the power of usb2.0 ports. But know you will NOT be able to fully power that if you plug it into a usb 2.0 port.
If you get one of those already made external hdds, they usually come with an external power adapter, which you will need.
If your computer detect the drive, 9/10 times its power related.
