I just bought my first electric guitar today. It was a Squier Telecaster P90 Custom. I'm not very happy with it, & am going to return it tomorrow. I am looking at the Epiphone Les Paul Special II. Does anyone have any experience with either guitar? Any suggestions for a guitar that I can trade in for $250 (the price of my Telecaster).
Update:I've actually never bought anything online! Haha, I bought it at the store. I was going to return it in the first place, because the strings started buzzing, & I read that it was probably incorrectly constructed in the factory.

I love Teles. Great guitars. If your current one sucks, maybe you could find a different tele that doesn't suck. $250 guitars tend to have quality control issues and one guitar can be quite different from another. Hopefully you bought it in person... never buy instruments online. You don't know what you're getting. Pedals and amps are a different story.
EDIT: Fantastic that you didn't buy it online. Go back to the store (hopefully a music store) and try out different guitars that you can afford. Use an amp very similar to the one that you own, preferably the same amp. Figure out which guitars have a sound you like and which guitars are easy to play. Both are important. Check out the used stuff. You might be able to get a much better guitar for almost the same price (rather than a Squier, an actual Fender). You get what you pay for in music: don't ever expect a $250 guitar to sound like a $1000 guitar, but used gear comes at a discount and can be good bang for your buck if they have something you like.
Also, consider this. A shitty guitar through a shitty amp will sound bad. Obviously. A very good, expensive, guitar through a shitty amp will sound bad. A shitty guitar through a good amp can often rock. If you're working on a limited budget, get the guitar that you can and focus on buying a real amp. Craigslist can be your friend here in the amp department.
And yes, Teles are one of my favorite guitars. You might do well with a Les Paul, but odds are your complaints with the Tele result from Squier sucking or you just not having a good setup. Playing around with every guitar you can find will help you find a good match for you.
Dude, there is nothing wrong with your guitar and that is one of my favorite Squiers. Hearing my friends P90 Custom is the reason I have 6 guitars with P90's now. Any guitar, and especially one in that price range, is going to need a professional setup out of the box. I don't know where you read that string buzz comes from incorrect construction, but I suggest you never take advice from that same source again. You just need a setup man, every new guitar I buy gets a professional setup first thing. And also a $250 Squier does not suck if properly setup. It has Duncan Design P90's which are very good sounding pups.
I love Epiphones and have swore by them for years, but their "special" models are some of the worst guitars I've ever had the misfortune of playing. I'd say look for a used les paul.
The Fender Telecaster is what God play's when He feel's like rocking out ;)
