So I have a 2001 Honda prelude vtec sports shift and my friend has a 2007 automatic v6 mustang. He keeps going on about how he could totally smoke me so im just wondering if he could beat me horribly? Im going to be racing him tomorrow and I just want to know before hand if I have something to worry about.

Those Preludes are ******* quick, if the Mustang would beat you it certainly wouldn't be by much but if I'm honest I wouldn't be surprised if the Honda would take the Mustang.
@Gay guy above - rofl what the ****
If you have a manual transmission, and you know where your car's powerband is, then you might be able to keep up with him. Your car doesn't make as much power as his does, but it's lighter, and you can keep it in the power band better with the manual transmission. Make sure you take your spare tire and all the stuff in the back seat out, before you go to the track. (You ARE going to the track, right? Because street racing is irresponsible.
Your buddy's biggest drawback is going to be the automatic. Even with his foot welded to the floor, the computer is optimized to upshift the transmission for fuel economy, not for performance. That is why automakers have moved to technologies such as VVT/VCT, to provide the performance boost without the fuel economy drawbacks. Owning a tuned automatic Mustang GT might be fine for drag races, but the V6 auto is tuned to give you just enough throttle to "feel" sporty.
