Suicide.
Well, it's the love theme song from the movie "City of Angels" starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan. So if you put in the context of the film, the song is about what Nic Cage's character sacrificed for love ( if you haven't seen the movie, he is an angel who falls in love with a human woman - he chooses to stay on earth and sacrifices eternity in the presence of the divine to experience the love - and the pain - of the human world ) - SPOILER ALERT - and pain he does experience ... he has no concept of the finite nature of being human ... he makes the decision to become human and stay on earth to be with the girl ... and very soon afterward, she is killed in an accident, and then he is alone.
However, I think the lyrics needed to be a little vague so it could also be a radio hit (Soundtrack songs don't make Top 40 lists) - so that's my opinion.
he is lost!! he needs help....
