They seem to have written off the 2012 election by picking a fight over the debt ceiling and may be able to hang enough blame on their opponents for their own role in ruining the economy to be overlooked four years later. It worked well enough for them in the 1988 election that elected H W Bush after the sky-high Reagan interest rates threw so many out of work for so long people accepted high unemployment as normal.

One of the things I wish would happen are studies for what effect policies will have in four years, so we can head legislation that dooms us off before it gets passed.
I think congress should be mandated by law to conduct an *independent* study to see what the economic impact is four years after implementation of new legislation - especially regarding taxes.
In other words, make the Congressional Oversight committee real.
I don't think that will happen, because the minority party (whomever it is) is more happy just blowing demagoguery to scare the willies out of us. Plus the committee was disbanded this year - surprise.
Ideally, something like that would be like a "fiscal Supreme Court" - but I don't think any party would go for it because it would limit both of them.
Do you seriously believe that Obama wants to be known as the only President in history that couldn't get the debt ceiling raised...do you really believe that? If the debt ceiling is not raised it will be Obama that takes the hit for it, bet on it. Obama has very possibly doomed the Democratic party for decades to come...he is the first Democrat to lose 60% of the Independents and without that 60% he doesn't have a prayer of reelection.
The economis is already down before 2010.
That's funny.. since most Americans disagree with the Democrat belief that we can continue to spend as much as we want and it won't cause any problems.
i think both parties are destroying the economy with their excessive spending and reckless foreign policy
liberal spending and borrowing to spend more is what is wrecking this country
